Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) has initiated an industry-wide effort to change the existing 3—5 digit OPRA code to a new 21 character symbology. The objective of this initiative is to standardize all communications with all the concerned parities in options trading like, OCC, options exchanges, and clearing and settlement entities. This industry-wide change must be completed by Feb—Apr 2010. This paper gives an overview of the options symbology initiative, its impact on the brokerage industry and describes the need and approach for systematic testing.

Pradeep Yadlapati, is a PMP certified Delivery Manager currently working with Infosys Technologies Limited. He has over 11 years of IT experience. He has had an opportunity to work in varied projects ranging from re-engineering, web development, functional and automated testing, performance testing and process consulting. For the last 5 years, Pradeep has been part of the independent testing group. As part of his current role, he is responsible for managing various clients in Banking and Financial Services Space.

Yemanshu Kodwani, is currently working as Business Analyst with Infosys Technologies Limited. He has done his MBA degree in Finance from Nirma Institue of Management, Ahmedabad. He has exposure to various stages of SDLC and has good knowledge of Capital Market concepts and processes. He is currently involved in Impact Analysis of OSI change on client’s application.

Srinivas Yeluripaty, is a PMP certified Senior Test Manager currently working with Infosys Technologies Limited. He has over 9 years of IT experience. He is involved in managing large programs in the Banking and Financial Testing Space covering Brokerage Industry, Investment Banking and Retail Banking. He is Infosys Gold Certified in Six Sigma for testing productivity improvement. His current interests include exploring various initiatives in capital market domain and the testing domain.
