Introduction
To put it simply, eDiscovery is the process in which electronic data is sought, located, secured and searched with the intent of using it as evidence in a civil or criminal legal case. But in a world of increasingly complicated compliance regulations, the need for short and long term eDiscovery solutions is not simplistic any more.
Most organizations (even if they do not belong to highly regulated industries) will eventually face litigation and the prospect of answering a discovery request. They prepare for that by deploying an e-Discovery solution configured to their specific enterprise networks. The solutions landscape is muddled and immature even as technology spending on eDiscovery is estimated to top $4.8 billion by 2011 (Forrester Report, July 2007). Thereby, testing of these solutions calls for comprehensive and meticulous methods that verify data integrity, data quality and data usability apart from responsiveness and accuracy.
eDiscovery Testing is also an area which reiterates the premise that 'domain knowledge is vital when testing a product'. A knowledge of the eDiscovery domain - how end users use the products, for what purpose and how to minimize costs of discovery - enables teams to test such products effectively for functionality.
This presentation will throw the spotlight on the emerging eDiscovery domain while exploring how domain expertise can help eDiscovery testers qualify the products.
