"How measurements have helped the organization & the End customer"

Abstract:

The business or organisation objectives out of a testing project are:

• What is the quality of testing? (Defect slip through, Defect rejection ratio, When to stop testing).
• What is the efficiency of testing (Testing productivity).
• Rewarded with special achievement award for CMMI Level 5 certification.
• Schedule, Effort & CSAT - Tools usage & Productivity enhancing tools or methods.

From a customer's point of view

• The number of outstanding Priority 1 bugs detected.
• Number of test cases pass or fail.
• Shorter cycle time to test & more releases tested.
• End user experience post deployment.
• Quality & producitivity best practices from the services organisation.

While all of the above measures could be in place, the business & customer context could be missed Just having the measures alone does not help, we need to communicate both the business & customer value & this calls for a different measurement, data organisation, Analysis & value articulation mindset.

This presentation aims to bring out these aspects of value articulation.

Speaker Profile:

Ganesh Arunachala, Head of Quality - Horizontals, Wipro Technologieshas a Masters Degree in Physics with Applied electronics from REC Trichy. He has over 22 years of software industry experience out of which 19 years are in Wipro. In his current role, he heads the quality function for the software & infrastructure technology practices. Ganesh Arunachala has been an active player in Wipro's Quality & Process Improvement Journey such as ISO, CMM, CMMI, etc.

He has been a lead auditor & part of the Core Assessment team. He has authored a methodology for applying Six Sigma in software development. As a Master Black belt & also Certified Lean Leader, he has trained over 175 Black belts & lean leaders. He is actively involved in researching software engineering areas & deploying them into tools that are useful for the practitioners. He Has conceptualized & led a team in the development & deployment of tools like Orthogonal array based testing & Software reliability growth models.
