The scope extends to understanding the criticality of a Test Automation Framework and the strategic choice of framework based on the type of testing. The areas of concerns while migrating from manual to automation testing would be discussed, and one will be able to and see how this understanding would help in choosing the right framework. What are the expectations from any automation framework? What essential guidelines should any automation framework follow? All these questions would be answered in this paper.

Over the past several years, tools that help programmers quickly create Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) based applications have dramatically improved programmer productivity. This has increased the pressure on testers, who are often perceived as bottlenecks to the delivery of software products. Testers are being asked to test more and more code in less time. They need to dramatically improve their own productivity. Test automation is one way to do this.

Here is a simple, but powerful quote worth reading again and again, to unearth the deeper message that it conveys: “Best practices exist for any activity – identifying them and extracting them from our experience to frame a set of easy-to-use guidelines is very essential and significant”. This wonderful quote applies to Test Scripting techniques as well. This paper is an attempt to share some of the lessons learnt in the area of Test Scripting techniques.
