It is essential for test professionals to know how their testing project is progressing and what the quality of the product they are testing is. Metrics & Measurements is a key aspect in both project and test management.Gone are those days when metrics was considered a Level-4 or Level-5 requirement in the quality journey that is to say, only matured companies need to follow metrics. Metrics have become the backbone of every organization and have become a de-facto requirement for periodical project reviews of all companies now.

Outsourcing of testing services is happening in a big way today. It goes without saying in all outsourcing activities, metrics form an important instrument to determine and depict the success of the outsourcing. We have well defined metrics for the software development life cycle, but can it be directly applied for the testing-only services. Possibly not, and that’s exactly why we have to think of newer dimensions/parameters for measuring the effectiveness across all aspects of testing.
