Lead or be Led - The role of Test Leadership

Conference Plenary at STeP-IN SUMMIT 2012 (February 2012)
Vinod Malhotra, Sr. Director, Misys

Do you feel your testing team is not getting enough respect from its peers? Does your testing team bear the brunt of working insane hours to catch up with late delivery of functionality? Does your team feel dejected when not all defects reported by it are fixed? Do you feel quality control is make-believe and products get shipped anyway on the promised dates? Do you scratch your head in disbelief when release dashboards blink green and the product bombs at customer sites?

Defect Prediction

Every organization has its quality goal defined and every project is targeted to achieve this goal, which comprises process and product measures. Defect planning is a critical process for projects to achieve its quality goal. The Quality goal is set in terms of delivered defect density. The aim is achieved by estimating the defects that would occur in various testing activities well before testing the product. The effectiveness of this approach depends on how well one can predict the defect levels at earlier stages of project.
