Learnings from planning and executing performance testing for a large application

   
 

Performance testing related experience and learnings from planning and executing multiple releases for a complex, shrink wrapped application are presented in this paper. The experience and learnings are presented against a background of processes, application functionality, testing environment, and business constraints. Critical Success factors during planning and execution of performance testing are identified and discussed. Learnings from the experiences are documented where appropriate.

Abhijit Deshmukh currently heads software engineering at Network Solutions Pvt Ltd, an IBM subsidiary. He has over 12 years of experience in product engineering in multiple domains including real-time and distributed applications, financial accounting for IT Services, metadata based workflow automation and ITIL centric applications for IT infrastructure management. He holds a Bachelor's degree (BE) in Computer Science & Engineering from the Amravati University, Maharashtra, and a Masters degree (MS) in Software Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY.
