Usability Evaluation of Mobile Phone Applications

   
 

In recent years Usability or user experience of the product has emergd as one of the key elements of market success.For the product to be successful in the competitive market it should be user friendly. Usability evaluation has proven to be an invaluable tool for assessing usability of the product based on user mistakes and satisfaction.Usability evaluation of the systems for stationary computer has grown to be an established discipline with different methods and techniques and has empirically documented experience with their use.

However these methods and techniques may not be applied directly for usability evaluation of the applications running on the mobile phone because of unique features of the mobile phone and limited bandwidth, unreliability of the wireless networks, as well as changing environmental factors. This paper discusses the challenges and application of existing tehniques for usabilty evaluation of the applications running on the mobile phone.

Harsha has 5 years of experience working with MOTOROLA, EMUZED and is currently with NOKIA Sr. Testing Engineer working on S60 applications on Mobile devices. He has a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Gulbarga University. He has expertise in Multimedia applications and components testing on mobile devices.

   

Shrinivas has an Engineering degree in Computer Science from Basaveshwar Engineering College, Bagalkot. He has worked on the AIRBUS360 project in Accord Software and Systems Pvt. Ltd. He is presently working on the Symbian/S60 platform using SDKs at Nokia India Pvt. Ltd.
