Designing User Interfaces through UCD & Usability Testing

   
 

The tutorial will walk participants through how they can include users/ customers through the User Centered Design process to deliver User Interfaces that meets user’s requirements. It will also deal with the various activities like gathering/understanding and analyzing user requirements, how one can design UI to ensure that the end result provides high customer satisfaction. The tutorial will also cover industry best techniques like contextual inquiry, focus groups, guided tour, etc used in each of the activities. The tutorial will cover how to measure user performance and collect the subjective satisfaction of the users through usability test.

Speakers Background
Deepa Bachu is Sr. Engineering Manager – UI Initiatives at INTUIT Technologies, makers of Quicken, TurboTax, QuickBooks and other intuitive products. Intuit uses Customer Driven Innovation (CDI) to create new offerings and improve upon existing ones – start with identifying customer needs and then build solutions that really meet those customer needs. Deepa has 11+ years in the User Experience field.

   

 

Mukundan has worked in over a dozen user interface projects. These include architecting high-performance user interfaces for customers in the US. He was involved in the design, redesign and evaluation of applications belonging to various domains. Mukundan has been involved in the whole UI process right from user requirements gathering at customer sites to prototypying, design, usability testing, and delivery.

Mukundan has been involved in activities like project estimation, discussion with end/business users & clients for design and business presentations.

Mukundan is membership coordinator of CHI-SI (chi-southindia.org), India's professional organization on computer-human interaction. He has also been actively involved in helping organize CHI-SI's annual national usability conferences.


Divya Ruth Joseph is a senior usability engineer at Cognizant Technology Solutions. She has worked in over a dozen user interface projects. This includes architecting of 6 high-performance user interfaces for customers in the US. Divya has been involved in the whole UI process right from user requirements gathering at customer sites to prototyping, design, usability testing, and delivery. Divya is a member of CHI-SI (chi-southindia.org), India's professional organization on computer-human interaction. She has also been actively involved in helping organize CHI-SI's annual national usability conferences.
